Creative ]
This little plot bunny wouldn't go away, so I decided to give it a life of its own. It's still untitle and there are still things I'm working out, like whether or not to use honorifics. Also, I don't know if it's set in Japan or America right off the bat.
EDIT: Because I'm still not sure (probably start out in Japan as that would be the most loyal to the manga/anime, so to speak), I just called it underground railway.
Anyway, this takes place in the modern world. There is still magic...sort of. It's not very common. A book of powerful spells is stolen instead of a sutra. The Sanzo Ikkouy still have to retrieve it. Hopefully, I'll be able to modernize the story chapter by chapter. This is a huge undertaking, mind you.
A basic rundown of the characters is such:
Sanzo Genjyo: a detective haunted by the death of his partner(?) and bordering on corrupt; he hid the murderous Cho Gonou after tracking him down
Cho Gonou: his beloved wife was raped repeatedly and murdered; he hunted each man down and slaughtered them; now, he lives his life as the peaceful Hakkai amongst rare books that he has gathered from around the world; his sole companion seems to be his cat, Hakuryu
Sha Gojyo: the wealthy illegimate son of a businessman; in an effort to stop his mentally ill step-mother, Gojyo's older stopped her but in the process killed her; he disappeared and after their father died, Gojyo became the sole heir
Son Goku: a street urchin picked up multiple times for panhandling; finally, Sanzo hired Goku as a houseworker to do the cooking and cleaning
